Since the greater Jessore district is located at the closed proximity of the Indian border, the Pakistani occupation army built a very strong defence perimer here during the 1971 War of Liberation. The freedom-loving people of the district as well as the India-found Bengali refuges became the victims of various atrocious activities like killing, mass-killing, rape of women, burning of houses, etc. perpetrated by the Pakistani army. Possibly, more resistance battles, guerrilla operations, wars, and fierce frontal wars took place in the region than that of other parts of the country. There are innumerable killing-spots and mass-graves in this district, too. Two of these included the sites of Moheshpur and Bhalaipur under the present Jhenaidah district (formerly sub-division). Many more are believed to be yet identified. Bhalaipur Killing-spot and Mass-grave are located at a very close distance from that of Moheshpur. One can hardly be discussed without the other. This article is no exception in this regard. The former, hitherto remained unknown, has been discovered by the present researcher in the recent time. The site was used as a killing-spot by the Pakistani army, mostly on a regular basis during the War of Liberation. Those who were the tragic victims of killing were thrown into a mass-grave covered by mud inadequately. The article at hand gives a hair-raising narrative of mass-killing of a single day (20 May) based on on-the-spot survey and related field study. It puts on record the horrendous account of experiences of one mass-grave survivor alongside the pathetic life and living of the family survivors of the victims. Four appendices and a few pictorial presentations are added to the end to give a fuller view of the episode.
